Texas Concordia Women's Basketball Falls to Southwestern, Perry Has Career-High Performance

The Concordia Texas women's basketball team narrowly lost to the Southwestern University women's basketball team, 60-56, Wednesday night at the Robertson Center. Senior guard Zachary Perry had a career-high 16 points and four steals.

First Half Highlights

The Pirates went on a 9-3 run in the first quarter to take a 16-11 lead. However, the Tornados tied the game at 16-16 on a pair of free throws by Hella Flowers with three seconds left in the game.

The second quarter was tightly contested with neither team gaining much ground. The largest lead for either team was only five points. In the final seconds of the half, Jordan Bravo scored a layup and Bailey Andrews hit a jumper to give CTX a 27-25 lead.

Third quarter surge

The Tornados dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Pirates 20-6. They swept the first six minutes of the half with a 16-1 run, extending their lead to 45-28 after Chelsea Cogburn scored on a steal and layup.

Fourth quarter comeback

The Pirates rallied in the fourth quarter to outscore the Tornados 23-8. The Pirates led 57-54 with 1:26 left in the game to seal the win.

Key Contributors

Zakari Perry had a Tornado career-high 16 points and four steals. Chelsea Cogburn had 10 points and three caps, while Jordan Bravo had six points, a career-high eight rebounds and four assists.

Texas Concordia will enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday before resuming play next Friday, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. against Pacific Lutheran University.
